Carpal tunnel syndrome causes numbness, pain and weakness in the hand and fingers due to compression of the median nerve at the wrist. Surgery releases the ligament causing the compression to relieve the nerve. It is done as day surgery under local anesthesia.
Early surgery usually markedly reduces symptoms.
Light work soon; heavy hand work after a few weeks.
